Representing Canine Companions

Canine Companions for Independence puppy raisers and graduates are strong ambassadors for the organization, representing us everywhere they go with their dogs in their yellow or blue vests.

Waldo and his puppy raiser, Lisa, have taken that role to heart and spend almost every weekend out and about in the community to share the Canine Companions mission. From local veteran events and golf tournaments, to neighborhood events and corporate presentations, Waldo has done it all.

Lisa and Waldo volunteer at information booths and events in the community with the hope that they’ll meet new people who might be interested in becoming a volunteer puppy raiser, applying for an assistance dog or supporting the organization. As the South Central Region continues to grow in Texas, our puppy raisers play a very important role in this kind of outreach. Especially since everyone wants to meet an adorable puppy which then provides a great opportunity to share about our mission!

Meeting new people

Besides volunteering at events, Waldo meets new people daily everywhere he goes. Whether it’s at the grocery store or a local restaurant, he offers to shake a paw with every person he meets.

Waldo’s philosophy is to work hard so he can play hard too! At the end of a busy day, one of his favorite ways to let loose and beat the Texas heat is to jump in the pool!

We’re always looking for new volunteer puppy raisers. If you are interested in raising a puppy like Waldo, visit cci.org/puppyraiser.
