Summer is headed our way and guess who’s ready? The Hero Litter pups! The longer and warmer days mean more time outside, more walks, more opportunities to meet new friends and more socialization.
As with all of the Canine Companions puppies, socialization is one of the most important parts of early training. The day-to-day experiences and exposures to new people, places and challenges help turn our puppies into the excellent assistance dogs we place with adults and children with disabilities.
With summer days right around the corner, the Hero Litter pups are ready to get out and get movin’.
Harbor – Harbor is a California girl and her days are filled with fun adventures. Her volunteer puppy raisers are a very active young family, so she’s headed to swim meets, water polo matches, the ocean and orthodontist appointments.
Hala –With Hala being raised in Phoenix, AZ, summer is the time when she and her volunteer puppy raisers get out of town to avoid the heat. Hala will get to work on her traveling skills as they head to Prescott, AZ, as well as Colorado for family vacations.
Hudson – This summer Hudson will enjoy the Florida beaches during the cooler part of the days. He will get to work on his commands while the beach balls fly, children run and any other distractions that come his way.
Harvest – Harvest and her volunteer puppy raiser have been enjoying longer walks early in the day to avoid the heat and working on new commands.
Hoagy -Hoagy is doing so well and working very hard on conquering his distractibility threshold when it comes to children; he can spot a child from a mile away! To help work through this, he and his puppy raiser regularly attend Little League baseball games, weekly reading at the children’s library and church on Sundays.
Holly – This summer will be full of learning opportunities for Holly. Whether she is socializing at the farmers market in Dayton, representing Canine Companions at “meet and greet” booths at community events, or visiting local businesses, Holly and her volunteer puppy raiser will use these occasions to work on socialization, distractions, new commands and develop confidence in different settings.
Harpo – Harpo will spend the summer out and about exploring new places and meeting new people. She and her volunteer puppy raiser will take trips to Boise, ID as well as Orlando, FL where Harpo will be reunited with brother Hudson and sister Holly for a short time. Harpo is spreading her wings and growing into a wonderful pup!
The Hero Litter pups are ready to take on the adventures and new opportunities of summer! Each and every trip they make, person they meet or command they perfect will help them in their journey to become life-changing assistance dogs. Thank you for following this fantastic group of pups!
