In 2020, Nick Antlitz was matched with Service Dog Zach. Nick is a busy guy! He works at the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services in Washington DC, but has been working from home since March. He plays quad rugby, which is how he heard about Canine Companions.
Before Zach, Nick would have to rely on others, but since being matched with Zach, everything has changed!
“Zach is my constant companion. It’s like having a second set of hands,” shares Nick. “When I need help, he’s always there. When I have my hands full, he can open the door for me, or pick up something I’ve dropped. Life is so much easier with Zach.”
Nick now never has to worry about being alone, because Zach will always be there to help. Expertly trained in over 40 commands, Zach can help in emergency situations by retrieving a phone or medication, and can also help with day-to day tasks, like opening a door or turning on and off lights!
“He helps me get dressed in the morning. When I wake up and open my eyes, the first thing I see is Zach with a sock or a shoe in his mouth and his tail wagging,” shares Nick.

“I can’t say enough about Canine Companions- I don’t know if all the dogs are like him, but he’s the greatest dog I’ve ever seen. In these times of social distancing, I don’t have to ask for help from anyone. He’s always there for me.”
