Canine Companions® puppy Alexis is growing up and has been introduced to about 15 commands including sit, stay, let’s go, shake, drop and dress. Alexis will learn another 15 commands or so before she enters professional training in February 2020. When the time comes and Alexis enters the next phase of her training, the professional instructors will build on the commands she already knows and add more advanced commands to her repertoire, getting her ready for a life of service for a person with a disability.

Since she has about a year and a half to master these basic skills, Alexis gets plenty of time to enjoy the Southern California sun! It’s summertime so that means visits to the beach, barbecues, picnics and meeting new friends! A variety of outings are important for Canine Companions puppies so they can get used to all kinds of sights, sounds and smells.

Alexis goes for walks with her puppy raiser by the beach every single day and she is enamored by the birds and butterflies. There is a lot of activity around the beach during the Summer so she is often able to work on greeting new people appropriately. She also has made a new dog friend, her puppy raiser’s son’s French bulldog, Gus.
